If space travel becomes possible, as it likely will in the coming decades, then I have this question for our future situation:

Will being able to leave our home planet be a reason for growth and discovery, or a means to put off learning valuable lessons that dealing with the consequences of our actions on Earth would lead us into the path of?

Or, to put it another way, I suppose:

Is the desire to leave Earth escapism more than exploration?

I do not believe that most of these questions actually have answers, but I hope that by asking them, I find out a little bit more about myself, about my world, and about the other people in it.
